Why be a legal apprentice?

Here are our top 5 reasons for being a legal apprentice:

Education and qualification costs covered

The cost of your apprenticeship is covered by the firm. That includes the cost of all your courses and any exam fees.

Opportunity to earn

Apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to earn money while you are studying. Meaning you won’t run up student debts!

Supported learning

You will have 1 day a week ring fenced for study. Meaning you have dedicated time to focus on your course as well as access to both your tutors and supervisor for assistance.

Hands on experience

All of our apprentices get a very hands on experience. Whether you are assisting a senior solicitor or running your own cases you get to deal with all aspects of a case from start to finish during your apprenticeship.

Defined progression

You don’t have to worry about securing qualified work experience in the future. You will already have this done and you can concentrate on passing the SQE and qualifying.

Why choose personal injury?

Here are 5 key reasons to choose to become a personal injury lawyer:

Supporting and helping vulnerable clients

Most people get into the law to help people and we at Express are no different. Our clients are at the very core of our business and the reason we strive to do our best.

Individual client connections

By the very nature of the work we do, some of your cases will always stay with you as a happy achievement.

Making a genuine difference

Working to help someone long term, you will build connections and get to know the difference you have made in your clients’ lives. Be that a small change or a life changing one, you know that you helped.

Seeing a case from start to finish

Later in your apprenticeship you will have your own caseload. We ensure that our apprentices have the chance to run a case from initial instructions all the way to trial or settlement. We want you to be confident in every step before you qualify.

Winning at trial

Later in your apprenticeship you will get the chance to take a case all the way to court. Our current lawyers enjoy the buzz of success when they win a trial. It’s the culmination of all the hard work they have put into a case and gives them a great sense of victory

How legal apprenticeships work at Express

Express have an established Legal Apprenticeship programme in place, having been at the forefront of this new qualification since its inception.  We have refined and adapted our apprenticeship programme over the last decade to make sure it offers the best experience for our apprentices.

Initially you will be working in our New Client Team, who deal with all the new enquiries that come into the firm. Initially assisting with administrative tasks, we give you the time and space to transition into your new professional working environment. You will learn the foundations of law, get to grips with new technology systems and grow your soft skills ensuring you are fully equipped for your next stage.

As you progress throughout your apprenticeship, you will progress to become a Litigation Assistant helping a senior lawyer with their caseload. Finally, you will be responsible for your own caseload, running them from start to finish and managing your own clients.

As well as gaining excellent practical skills working, within in our fast-paced legal environment, you will also attend lectures and workshops via our partnered provider, where you will hone the theoretical side.  You will be supported by your supervisor and will be provided regular study time as well. We believe this blended approach helps apprentices to learn more efficiently, ensuring that upon qualification you are well on your way to being a personal injury expert.

Your journey with Express doesn’t stop on qualification, we see every apprentice as part of the firm’s future. If you have shown your dedication and aptitude for providing the best service to our clients, we will look to offer you a newly qualified solicitor position and will look to continue to progress your career.
