Robert suffered third-degree burns to his leg when his e-cigarette exploded in his pocket. After the accident, he spent twelve days in a specialist burns unit. Six months later, he was still recovering and requiring ongoing treatment.
Reflecting on the incident, Robert described it as a “life-changing experience.”
He still experiences hypersensitivity in his leg and is unable to expose the burn to UV light for at least eighteen months after the accident.
Several solicitors had declined to take Robert’s case, with accidents involving e-cigarettes notoriously difficult to prove. Part of the challenge is determining whether to pursue the manufacturer or the retailer for compensation.
By proving that Robert had not been given the appropriate safety advice, we successfully secured him £20,000 in compensation, helping with his recovery.
