A man has won £5,000 compensation from a razor company after cutting himself while shaving.
Nick Silverthorn purchased a razor from the supermarket, but when he got home and used it for the first time, it cut both cheeks.
The 48-year-old then discovered one of the razor blades was detached and believed the razor was faulty.
Instead of ignoring the issue, Nick reached out to Express Solicitors to launch a claim against one of the world’s biggest razor manufacturers Wilkinson Sword.
With the help of Jack Klein, Trainee Solicitor in our Occupiers and Public Liability team, he won £5,000 in an out-of-court settlement against the company.
Jack explained that they settled quickly to avoid further ‘invasive’ testing which could lead to a potential multi-million product recall.
Jack continued: “Not many people who cut themselves shaving would think to sue one of the world’s biggest razor companies.
“But Nick did and by keeping the razor as proof he won a settlement. It just shows that if you are injured by any product there may be a valid claim no matter how big the company are.”
Nick added: “This was no ordinary shaving cut. It sliced my skin like a knife through meat. Luckily I wasn’t shaving my throat at the time as otherwise it could have been much more serious.
“When I saw the blade hanging out I thought that could have done some real damage.
“My cuts bled for over 20 minutes. I took action to protect others as they may not be as lucky as me. This was a serious fault. It was a matter of principle to take the big boys on and I did and won.”
