More about Kris Mohindra
Kris Mohindra is a Senior Associate Costs Lawyer with over 14 years litigation experience and over 10 years’ experience in costs. He qualified as a Costs Lawyer in 2017 and joined Express in January 2024.
Prior to moving into costs Kris was a Paralegal handling claims following road traffic collisions and specialising in claims where fraud or low velocity impact had been alleged against his clients. During this period he gained an in depth knowledge of the litigation process and developed his client service skills, particularly gaining experience in handling difficult conversations given the nature of the allegations raised.
Kris moved into costs in the summer of 2013 and from 2014 has specialised in costs budgeting dealing with budget preparation, negotiation and advocacy at CCMCs throughout the country. He has experience in dealing with a wide variety of matters including medical negligence, catastrophic injury cases and group actions.
Kris has experience of leading a Costs Budgeting Team, managing people, and providing training to his own team members as well as the solicitor clients he served.
When asked about why he wanted to work in legal costs Kris said “I’ve always been passionate about the law and had an interest in being a lawyer from a young age but growing up, my strongest subject was always maths and led me towards obtaining a degree in accounting. I’ve found that by pursuing a career in legal costs, I’ve been able to marry my skillet with my passion. Specialising in costs budgeting over the last decade has also meant that I’ve been at the forefront of a new and developing area of law which is exciting as I’ve been able to play an active role in developing the law in this area.”
When questioned on what he most enjoys about his work re responded: “I’d say the two areas of my work that give me the most satisfaction are the training and development of other people. I get so much satisfaction from contributing to the development of others and sharing knowledge. The other is securing an excellent result for our clients at CCMCs. Since the law reforms in 2013, Claimant’s have become liable for an element of the legal costs for pursuing claims for injury arising through no fault of their own. I take great pride in the knowledge that by performing my job to a high standard, I get to reduce the burden faced by our injured clients”.
Kris is passionate about responsible business with a track record of being involved in a number of initiatives from organising group participation in charity funding events to serving as office lead for Irwin Mitchell’s ethnicity and religious equality group. He has arranged events bringing in external speakers to address colleagues on Diversity and Inclusion, co-hosted an inspirational summit for disadvantaged young people and delivering mock interviews as part of a schools’ outreach initiative to provide invaluable experience to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
