David Roach’s brother John stepped in to help when a woman was attacked and bitten by a pit bull. When the dog turned on John too, he was left with severe physical injuries and the attack had a huge effect on his mental health.
John died 18 months after the attack and now David is calling for a change in the law. He wants owners of banned breeds, whose dogs attack people, to face the same punishment as criminals who use other lethal weapons.
Senior Associate Solicitor Advocate Katryn Mercer of the Occupiers’ Liability and Public Liability department was the Express solicitor involved in John’s case and has dealt with several other dog bite cases. Alongside David, she was interviewed on the BBC North West Tonight programme.
