Amputee client

Express Solicitors has supported a dad who had to have four toes amputated after his GP misdiagnosed his infection as athlete’s foot.

Michael Jones visited his doctor numerous times after noticing a black rash around his feet, but on each visit, his concerns were dismissed.

Eventually, he was referred to the hospital and was diagnosed with a blood clot.

However, it was too late for treatment and he had to have an emergency operation to remove three toes on one foot and another toe on his other foot.

Frustrated by the lack of care, Michael launched legal action against the GP and surgery with the help of Max Cosstick, Associate in our Clinical Negligence team, and won £285,000.

Max said: “Michael trusted the advice his GP had given him and he is now paying the price.

“He was compensated because of their failure to refer him to surgery in time, something which eventually cost him his toes.

“There were multiple opportunities to help him, but they failed.”

Michael added: “I can no longer do simple things like walk out of my front door or walk the dog around the block.

“You take walking for granted, but when you can’t do it, it makes a real difference in your life.

“I have to live with their negligence for the rest of my life. Worst of all they haven’t even bothered to say sorry.”
