Jake Davison and his friend were fishing off the East Sussex coast in January 2022 when they spotted a giant trawler heading towards them.

He had a camera set up to record his expedition for his YouTube fishing channel, but instead, it captured the pair shouting at the trawlermen in an attempt to make their presence known.

With no other option, the duo was forced to ditch their equipment and jump out of the way on their boat as the trawler rammed into the left side the stern.

The pair managed to safely sail their boat back to the harbour, despite Jake suffering serious back injuries.

For months, the railway worker was unable to stand at work for long periods and had to take super strength painkillers. He also suffered from flashbacks of what happened in the months following the incident – resulting in him waking up in the middle of the night.

Jake wanted to take legal action for the near fatal accident, so he sought our personal injury expertise and we were able to help him win an out-of-court settlement.

Craig Phillips, Partner, Occupiers and Public Liability, handled Jake’s case and said: “Thankfully these types of incidents are rare but when they do occur it is sometimes a matter of life and death for those involved. The psychological aftermath and physical injuries can be extreme.

“Express Solicitors is always here to help you with your personal injury claims no matter where and how they arise and your rehabilitation.”
