Express Solicitors has helped a mum-of-two obtain a life-changing settlement after she was injured by a moped on a pedestrian crossing.
As a result of the accident, Loraine White sustained broken ribs and fractured her right knee, which required immediate surgery.
Loraine was further devastated when the driver was found not guilty after he told the magistrates court he wasn’t the one who hit her.
Determined not to let the driver get away, she reached out to Express Solicitors and with the help of Rachel Flannigan, Principal Partner in our Road Traffic Accidents department, she sued the driver for her injuries.
She was successful in her claim and was awarded an out-of-court settlement of £95,000.
Rachel said: “We made sure she felt heard and represented after she was let down so poorly by the criminal justice system.
“Loraine was able to ring us and vent these frustrations and we were able to help her see that, despite the limitations of the justice system in the UK, we would try to help her recover as much as she can.
“We made sure she was compensated for her injuries and losses and that the defendant would now face higher insurance premiums for several years, so he hadn’t got away with it completely scot-free.”
Loraine said: “This has ruined my retirement. I am in constant pain. I now have metal in both knees, matching scars and I struggle to walk. I feel like that R2D2 robot from Star Wars.
“My life has totally changed. I can’t go to the gym anymore, do Pilates or socialise much anymore due to the constant pain.
Due to the injury, Loraine is now looking to move from the house she has lived in for nearly 30 years due to her mobility issues.
“My house is too small with my walking stick, and I have to shuffle around and go up the stairs sideways or crawl up them as I find them too steep and narrow.”
